Toy Story – Together

Toy Story was the very first Pixar full-length feature, released in 1995. It was about two toys that begin their relationship as opponents but finish as friends!

PERSPECTIVE

The beginning of this movie’s setup reminds me of the story of Esther. See Esther 4:3-5

Concerning how we relate to others, have we built our lives to be palaces or missions?

Like Esther, the toys’ world had become very small, private, protected, even guarded.

It’s often hard to hear someone else’s problem when your own problems are screaming so loudly.

Later, the other toys misunderstood what happened to Buzz and they wrongly judged Woody for it.

Woody wasn’t innocent, but he also wasn’t guilty.

1 Corinthians 13:7

WE NEED EACH OTHER

Two unhealthy self-image types arise in our movie:
Once Buzz shows up Woody thinks he’s not enough.
But Buzz thinks he’s too good to be just another toy.

But the roles reverse – as they often do in life!
Captured by evil Sid, Buzz sees a commercial and realizes he really is just a toy.
But Woody tells Buzz: “I can’t do this without you. I need your help.”

So now Buzz needs Woody! And Woody needs Buzz!

WE ARE ALL CHOSEN

“Being a toy is a lot better than being a Space Ranger. No, it is. Look, over in that house is a kid who thinks you are the greatest, and it’s not because you’re a Space Ranger, pal, it’s because you’re a TOY! You are HIS toy.” – Woody in Toy Story

“God is fond of you. If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it. If He had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning. Face it, friend, He’s crazy about you.”

Jesus didn’t choose only one of us. Ephesians says the mystery of God’s will is to gather all things in Jesus. (See Ephesians 1:9-10)
