Our default is what we know, what we are comfortable with, our way, our passions, our thoughts, etc.
So Jesus interrupted their fishing trip with…
First, a question.
What is Jesus asking you today? What will your answer be?
Miracles, at least two
We have miracles every day and don’t pay attention that Jesus is trying to get our attention!
Breakfast was also an invitation to spend time with Him, in His presence.
The one most anxious to be with Jesus got the most time with Him!
Then Jesus sends him back into ministry!
God’s presence isn’t just for us!
The miracles are meant to continue!
His provision is meant to be shared!
Jesus’ words are too awesome to keep to ourselves!
Jesus didn’t condemn fishing but reminded Simon Peter there were more important things that he needed to get to!
We know you must do 3 things to be fulfilled, to become all God dreams, etc
1. CONNECT – With Jesus and other Christians
2. SERVE – Everyone has something awesome to do for Jesus!
Summer of Serve – meeting 5/19 4pm
Small Group – online meeting for leaders 5/14 8pm
3. OWN YOUR GROWTH
Anyone ever have doubts? You’re in good company. Doubt is natural.
The strongest form of faith is one that has wrestled through doubt.
But doubt is dangerous. Doubt is a thief!
The first temptation began with a doubt – Genesis 3:4-5
Jesus chided people over their small faith because they were allowing doubt to steal their blessings, peace, confidence and power!
Matthew 6:30, 8:26, 14:31, 16:8, 17:20
Settle What You Know
John 20:27 24-28
Faith is not blind belief. Faith is trust.
Mary Magdalene didn’t recognize Jesus at first but then immediately, as if she had flashbacks of every time she heard Him say her name! John 20:16
Every man must do two things alone; he must do his own believing and his own dying.
How Do I Settle What I Know?
Direct your doubt, and your faith, toward Jesus!
Even John the Baptist, the preacher God sent to lead the way before Jesus, to herald Jesus’ coming, even he dealt with doubt. Matthew 11:3
[ctt template=”3″ link=”28b2e” via=”no” ]Never allow what you feel to change what you know![/ctt]
Never Let Doubt Have the Final Word!
“No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there.” – Steve Jobs
That we are uncomfortable with death is an understatement.
But if you think about it, we die a little bit every day.
Shakespeare said, “Cowards die many times before their deaths.”
Anyone ever had a career or business die?
death : a permanent cessation
And like death, the cross is also confusing
Death is the great “exposer.” It exposes all things that are temporary!
the trouble that dogs us,
the strongholds that keep us defeated,
even the sin that is killing us.
What dies at the cross?
Death reminds us what’s important, like every funeral we’ve been to. Let me say it another way:
[ctt template=”3″ link=”J006i” via=”no” ]Death reminds us that we hold too tight to that which is temporary, often at the expense of what truly matters.[/ctt]
It’s the things that are alive on Easter morning that matter! Things like freedom, hope, new life, purpose, meaning, forever, etc.
At the cross an old life focused on temporary, unimportant, insignificant things dies to make way for a new life that is real, with meaning, through Jesus!
Even my sin was temporary!
But His victory is forever!
10 is an awesome number!
Just remember, a milestone and a finish line are not the same thing. A milestone is something you pass. A finish line is the end! And bad things happen when we mistake milestones for finish lines.
Kings don’t retire, they abdicate in exile.
Priests don’t retire, they fall from grace.
Warriors don’t retire, they start fighting the wrong battles.
Examples in the Bible of people who quit:
Noah was called righteous and blameless!
But the last event we learn of his life was a drunken event that brought shame and curse to his family!
Korah was of the chosen lineage to minister in God’s tabernacle
But died an inglorious death due to rebellion against God’s plan
Gideon was a nobody chosen by God to deliver Israel from oppression
But took advantage of his popularity and led his family and many in his nation away from God in the end
Eli was the High Priest of Israel
But his two sons and the Ark of the Covenant were both lost while he served as spiritual leader of Israel
King Saul was specifically chosen by God as the first king of Israel
But lost God’s favor because of disobedience
King Solomon was chosen by God and his own father David
But failed God terribly in his later years in leading his family and nation!
King Joash repaired the temple and reinstituted worship in Israel
But listened to the wrong people and was ultimately assassinated
Josiah led a national revival bringing the nation of Israel back to God
But died in battle when he didn’t pay attention to what God was doing
[ctt template=”3″ link=”I9923″ via=”no” ]A break is a day off, not a season of disengagement! Jesus took days off with disciples but right back to ministry.[/ctt]
David won many great battles, most famous of all? 1 Samuel 17:50-51
But he also broke half of the 10 commandments in one episode! 2 Samuel 11:1
The best in you will come out on the battlefield.
On the rooftop the worst in us comes out.
– Jimmy Evans
The battlefield is a metaphor for fighting, staying in the game, etc. Just as the rooftop is a metaphor for taking a break from responsibilities!
True kings never retire, they continue leading because of their passion for their people!
True priests never retire, they continue to mentor and pass along their anointing!
True warriors never retire, they continually rearm!
10 is not the finish line. Church 29:11 has passed a milestone! And there are many more to pass!
Darkness is not a real thing.
Light is the real thing.
You can dispel darkness with light, but darkness can never dispel light!
[ctt template=”3″ link=”qb3U2″ via=”no” ]The only way for darkness to win is for light to be absent. The only thing that light has to do to win is show up![/ctt]
The world can be a very dark place, wherever there is absence of light!
If you’re in a dark place, turn the Light on!
Attending church services and small groups is powerful because of all the light!
1 John 2:8
What is your ministry dream?
Tips on Living in the Light – Ephesians 5
Other scriptures on Light in the darkness: Luke 1:79, John 8:12, 2 Corinthians 4:3-4, Colossians 1:13-14, Matthew 4:16 (quoting Isaiah 9:2), 1 Peter 2:9
FOUR important things if we are going to have real impact
Real Truth, not Popular Truth
Full Truth, not Half Truth
Half a truth is often a great lie. – Benjamin Franklin
God loves you just the way you are, but He refuses to leave you that way. He wants you to be just like Jesus. – Max Lucado
Facts, not Drama
Don’t assume – look for the truth
Don’t believe innuendo – there will always be critics of truth
Don’t listen to rumor or gossip, which are words spoken by people who have fallen victim to assumption or believed innuendo
Whether I am the offender or the offended I must go talk it out! Either way, Jesus wants me to be firstborn and lead in humility to settle the matter.
And don’t talk to anyone else about it either until AFTER I’ve talked to the person who offended me. See verse 16.
Why does all this matter?
2 Corinthians 5:18-19
Salt and light both have to make contact in order to have impact.
When a Christian is in a conversation there will be a flavor of Jesus!
[ctt template=”3″ link=”me2Ry” via=”no” ]Truth is absolute, doesn’t change, and is found in Jesus.[/ctt]
[ctt template=”3″ link=”7de35″ via=”no” ]Our attitude toward the past is grace! But our attitude toward the future must be truth![/ctt]
Knowing truth and not sharing it is the opposite of love.
So what is the truth?
When does life begin? Conception? Implantation? Quickening? Tissue separation? Brain activity? Heartbeat? Viability? Breath?
What science says. Article 1. Article 2.
How does God view the unborn?
Every year the top 10 causes of death globally are outnumbered by induced abortions!
How did we get here?
2 Timothy 3:3
So what do we do, I mean, as the salt?
The story of Telemachus
1. a person who sees an event, typically a crime or accident, take place have knowledge of (an event or change) from personal observation or experience.
“What you’ll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world.” Acts 1:8 MSG
Credibility has two key components: trustworthiness and expertise
Know the Word

Let our Words Match our Deeds
“Preach the gospel at all times. When necessary, use words.” – St Francis of Asissi
1 John 1:6-7
Love like Jesus
