Exposing the Power of God

Who is the Holy Spirit?

1 John 5:7, Matthew 28:19

Titles in the Bible: Spirit of God, Spirit of Christ, Spirit of Grace, Spirit of the Lord, Spirit of Life, Spirit of Truth, Eternal Spirit, Comforter, Helper, Advocate, The Spirit, The Holy Spirit

Why then is the Holy Spirit so often overlooked?
Because His purpose is to promote Jesus, pointing people to Jesus, convincing us of our need for Jesus, drawing us to Jesus, confirming Jesus’ message with power!
John 16:13, 15:26

Our inadequacies are not an obstacle to the Holy Spirit!
2 Corinthians 12:9-10

It begins with a prophecy – John 1:42

But it didn’t happen right then
or during a multi-hour prayer meeting in Gethsemane,
or later that night when SP was asked if he was with Jesus, 3 times,
or at the cross,
or the next day when he was in hiding with the rest of the disciples,
or when he went fishing like we talked about 2 weeks ago.

It happened in Acts 2 when he and 119 others were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit! Acts 2:1-4

Simon Peter’s unbridled speech became the first sermon of the church where 3,000 accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord! Acts 2:41

His recklessly bold actions became a focused boldness in Jesus, not his own ability! Acts 4:20

The miracles about himself became ministry connecting others with Jesus! Acts 3:1-8

Simon Peter, without the power of the Holy Spirit, would have continued to
speak and act impulsively at times,
resort to cursing and swearing when backed into a corner,
create more problems than he was solving…

The Holy Spirit took Simon Peter beyond his faults and inadequacies!
Not merely to a place of realizing his own peace and power but beyond that to a place of purpose in helping others come to their own place of peace and power!

TWO THINGS

1. The gift of the Holy Spirit is God’s power for you!

2. His power also has these purposes:
Teach and then remind us what we have learned
Guide us into all truth
Comfort and help us
Testify about Jesus
Power to share Jesus everywhere we go
Power for miracles
John 14:26, John 16:13, John 14:16, John 15:26, Acts 1:8, Hebrews 2:4
